Park City UtahTheater & Art Come Alive in Park City. It used to be that winter resorts offered skiing, dining and lodging for its visitors. However, savvy travelers, as well as those who now make resort towns their homes, demand much more from their surroundings, including cultural activities. Along those lines, artists also have discovered the benefits of moving to, and presenting their works in, such settings. Park City, once a rough-and-tough mining town, now offers its visitors a plethora of cultural options, from live theater to numerous art galleries, a film series to one of the world's most prestigious film festivals.

ART GALLERIES: Park City offers over 20 galleries featuring works from local, regional and national artists. Friday Night Gallery Strolls, the first Friday of each month, is a wonderful way to see what is new in Park City's art scene. The stroll is along Main Street from 6-9 p.m.

THE ECCLES CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS: Park City's newest addition to the cultural scene, the 1,300 seat Eccles Center for the Performing Arts is designed for joint use by the Park City School District and the community. The center will host live performances, drama competitions and such national touring acts as the Tibetan Monks, China’s Lily Cai dance group and the Missoula Children’s Theater, as well as the Sundance Film Festival held each January in Park City.

Park City UtahEGYPTIAN THEATER COMPANY: The Egyptian Theater Company (formerly Park City Performances) at the Historic Egyptian Theater on Main Street, offers the finest stage productions.

PARK CITY FILM SERIES: Features independent films, Sundance favorites, and less "mainstream" films. Films are screened each Friday and Saturday night throughout the winter at the Park City Library & Education Building.

PARK CITY INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL: One of the leading chamber music festivals in the country, now in its 15th year. The festival attracts guest artists of exceptional quality from around the world for performances throughout the year.

THE SUMMIT INSTITUTE FOR THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES: An organization whose mission is to provide an environment for the arts and their creation, exposure, teaching and performance, and to promote the study of humanities. Here, artists and scholars gather to work, create, exchange ideas and perform for locals and visitors alike.

SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL: Celebrating its 14th year in Park City, this highly acclaimed festival produced by Robert Redford features the talent of the world's best independent film makers. Held in Park City each January, this year's festival is scheduled for January 20-30.

As one can see, Park City has truly moved to the forefront in terms of offering the finest in cultural activities to enhance the overall experience of each Park City visitor. Working as an umbrella organization representing these fine artists and their individual missions, the Park City Arts Council has additional information on all cultural events and activities in Park City and may be reached by calling (435)647-9747.
